People: The Disturbed

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006 | Author: Axel

I take a seat with all my luggage in rapid transport across a young man. He is about 25 years old, in spite of the cool late summer he is wearing short trousers, a coarsely woven shirt made from cotton and sneakers. A modern haircut and a beard, a so-called goatee. Directed more or less at me he starts to talk, talks about grandchildren somebody will not get. Passing the German political government and parliament buildings he says someting about them not winning the world cup as they are corrupt. Or something similar.

Shortly before leaving the train he utters a sentence, which I understand and which makes me smile: “Hookers will not get to heaven, but also not to hell. They will be reborn!”

Control everywhere

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006 | Author: Axel

Now our German Minister of the Interior, Wolfgang Schäuble,  not only is asking for stronger video control in public places and for combining police and secret service databases, but also asks for a tighter control of the Internet. All in view of the recent terrorism events in Germany. Are we moving towards Chinese circumstances where everything in the net is not only controlled but censored as well. Will he demand censorship at some time?

Testing Windows Live Writer

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006 | Author: Axel

Microsoft has published a Blogging Tool, Windows Live Writer, with which you are able to edit in a sort of WYSIWIG style. It is able to use the blog’s stylesheet, so that you have a good idea of how the post will look during writing. As a Mac person I am no Microsoft fan, but this makes a good immpression, though still Beta with some bugs.

Even Hanna Hanna was impressed by this program and how easy blogging is done with it. That does not mean that she is writing more often, she told me it seems so banal to her what she writes. But this is always sort of relative, what is banal for one might interest another. And such a private blog always is kind of banal, its purpose is not in publishing great literature.

Working week

S-Bahn Hamburg

Every time I look into this direction from the Rapid Transit Train, I know that somewhere in that direction is the Channel Harburg and the working week has started again. And immediately I start waiting for Friday. But, as Hamburg people say in dialect: “Watt mutt, datt mutt!” (What must, that must!)

Autumn feelings

Saturday, August 19th, 2006 | Author: Axel

During our boat trip on the last hot weekend I saw the first wild geese coming from the North and maybe passing Brandenburg for South Africa. I had the first sad feeling which grew stronger when the weather became wet and cold, and a light depression showed up behind the wall of rain. Then I told myself that I would have time enought for that in November and this year I want to approach the autumn differently. For me the roof  terrace is the best occupational therapy I can think of, therefore I started to take stock of all plants and their pots. And I made a drawing of the terrace floor plan. I still am an administrator through and through, working in administration has formed me in an intensive way.

Well, now I am able to decide for each single plant with which they will hibernate, as I have to change pots for quite a few, so that they will flower next summer. Furthermore now have enough to do with calculating, redecoration, choosing pots in the net and so on. Therefore now I am looking forward to autumn and enthusiastically think of this planning.

How beautiful autumn can be is shown by the roses (William Shakespeare 2000), which I cut for Axel’s birthday.

My Daily Swimming

Friday, August 18th, 2006 | Author: Axel

As you know, I gave myself the membership in Elixia Ostkreuz, a fitness club, for my 55th birthday. The courses I did in the beginning like spinal training or sitting byke only hurt me and gave no fun. I just have reduced to aquarobics and swimming…

I am very (!!!) afraid, but the water depth is 1.30 m… and so now I am the lady circling for up to 70 minuts in the basin. It is a lot of fun and more and more elderly ladies follow my example and backstroke through the pool. Afterwards I go into the sauna and heat up again. Then a 15-minute walk home and soon I will be really fit… I already won a T-shirt with swimming… You see, I will become a sports person… and how great that will be!

People: The Pub Owner

Thursday, August 17th, 2006 | Author: Axel

She is around 60, wearing a long skirt made of leather. Her hand bag really is a bag with long fringes. She is living not very far from her bar, just a block away. The bar style seems to have been developed at the same time as she was, definitely in the Sixties. Mostly it is quite empty just a few people hang around. But it is special, nearly every day there is live music performed. And they really push the program, they print small leaflets with it. She always has some with her, and when she buys her cigarettes at the petrol station in the morning, she hands out the program to everybody around, no matter where they come from.

But does it help? There still is lots of room in the pub.

Eros Bar

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006 | Author: Axel

Next Week a savings bank will open a branch office next to the house where I work in Channel Harburg. This in itself is not unusual, what is special is the sign hanging on the front. Nothing to do with erotics, previously there was a bar in the house belonging to a man called Eros. The house was rebuilt and the the old bar sign was fixed to the front again. Obviously the savings bank is able to live with it.
