Yesterday we undertook an excursion to Hanna’s old home area in Wilmersdorf. Hanna took the opportunity to have some nostalgic feelings under the pretense of wanting to see a new jazz band in her old local pub, the Spinnrad (Spinning Wheel) in Wiesbadeber Strasse. But obviously this was not more than pure nostalgia, because very soon she missed our flat and our area of Berlin, Friedrichshain. The band, Eric’s Club, was allright, but nothing really special. The type of music what I would call “Bar Jazz”, just a pleasant kind of background music.

The pub itself is managed by Frank and Uwe, who already have appeared in this blog. Frank told us, that the pub has been in operation since 1965. And you can see that: the interior is somehow typical for that era, just some patina has been added. In addition the guests are of an age that you can assume that they became regulars from the very first day of the Spinnrad. And that they were no teenagers in 1965…

This morning I had a control examination in St. Hedwig Hospital. Everything seems to be alright.

In the apartment above they will cheer anyway, no matter what the result of Germany-Argentina will be.
However, it is nicer if it is really colourful, especially if they still display the flags of teams already out of the tournament (both pictures taken in our quarter).

Somehow this seems to be the time of moving into new flats when I look around among our friends. These days having removals are: Rita and Peter, Dagmar and Hans-Peter, Manu and Karsten.
It is really good that we love our flat, I would not like to move currently.

Our friend
Bill Kinderman, who teaches and researches at the University of Illinois as musicologist specialised in Beethoven, has reconstructed the first movement of a
Beethoven Trio so far unknown from old sketchbooks at Princeton and in Berlin. However, he did not use our keyboard shown in the picture. Sound files of the fragment are available for
PC and for
Apple.

The bicycle above, the picture being taken in June 2006 in St. Hedwig-Hospital in Berlin, gave me the idea to show pictures of bicycles in a loose series. The inscription on the parking sign means “Managing Board”.
To start with following is another picture from May 2005 in Valencia.

When Axel was in hospital, I tried to cheer him up with terrace pictures, as a lot has come up during the last two weeks. Especially happy I was made by the first roses and the completion of the terrace by plants which were given to me by friendas as a replacement for the withered hanging plants. By appropriate placement and moving plants together I try to act aganist the impression of having a jungle.
Smokie especially enjoys Axel’s being home again and he animated him to play as he did during the time when Linus did not stay with us… the usual welcome ceremony when Axel came home from Hamburg for the weekend… it is good to have our common rhythm again.

I just want to say good-bye again for a longer break. Tomorrow I will go into hospital again and on Friday I will undergo surgery.

I will miss the view from our terrace towards the television tower decorated for the World Cup. If I am lucky, I might be back from anaesthesia to watch the opening game of the tournament. I do not hope for a group stage exit as the Friends of Nature here in Gryphiusstrasse, but I wish that I will be able to see some games of the German team consciously!Of course I will miss these three creatures:

But I will miss Hanna especially who fortunately is able to visit me.

I have changed this site to a new software version: Rapidweaver v3.5 with the appropriate Updates for the Diamond Theme from Rapid Ideas. The changes are not that obvious, but there now are Permalinks and the archives are now following the design of the theme.
Please report any problems in the commentaries, I will take care of them after returning from hospital.
