Tomorrow morning, better say, tonight (leaving at 5 am) I will be flying to Vilnius, capital city of Lithuania. This will be my first visit to the Baltic States, and Vilnius is supposed to be very beautiful. It is however a short trip only, I will be back in Berlin on Friday.

Now Christmas time really has started. With the help of Manu and Karsten we put up the Christmas tree which happened to end up in our apartment due to Steffie and Klaus and equipped it with lights. Hanna wants to decorate it tomorrow and still not all lights are installed in the windows. But it is already looking good anyway.

Manuela did complain that there was no picture of her on our pages. This is now corrected as you can see.

This year it is Axel’s turn: While in the last years all friends, especially Manu, did the decoration of the apartment with me alone, and Axel enjoyed coming home and finding everything ready, tomorrow he has to help!!! But it is really necessary with this beauty of a Christmas tree, which Steffie (our “little one”) and Klaus carried up to the terrace with all their last efforts. For those of you who remember our easter tree from last year, this had a size which could be managed by Axel alone…

Well, I am really looking forward to tomorrow, as Manu and a friend will come to help us to put up fairy lights and other christmas decorations. This year Manu and us want to hold our open Christmas Eve together, as we both like an open house especially on this evening and we will have fondue in several variations. Tomorrow we will talk over everything during dinner (we will have “Eisbeinauflauf” – knuckle of pork casserole) and the snow and sun will contribute to the feeling I thought about in title of this entry: it is a variant of the first movement’s title in Beethoven’s Pastoral, and maybe we will listen to it. And if we are lucky, the video store downstairs will have the old Disney film Fantasia, which I tried to order there… Pictures will be put up tomorrow evening or on Monday…
By the way, spot the cat in the second picture!

Tomorrow is “Buy Nothing Day”. Organised by a Canadian organisation, the Adbusters, this day is supposed to help fight against consumation and brand terror. Even in Germany, especially in Berlin this day is organised. Since Michael Moore‘s “Bowling for Colombine” the Canadians are known as a rather peaceful and European country. We of course know it due to our Canadian family connections. Therefore let us do anything to get out of the “Circulus vitiosus”, the devil’s circle expressed in the following picture.

“Du bist Deutschland” (You are Germany) does not seem to be such a new campaign. This was reported in Spreeblick and other Blogs through the picture below from 1935 found in a book about Ludwigshafen. I do not like this campaign anyway.

I changed the design of the page a little bit, I like the slightly larger font and the navigation menu better. What do you think?

Now the time of Merkel has started in Germany and I have lost my bet. But at least, a little more than 10 % of the coalition’s members of parliament did not vote for her!

Grey November day, they dark season has started. I am thinking to take pictures of the television tower every week or so, to document the change of seasons. Then you can remember better times even on grey days like today. The second picture is from April, when the dark and light seasons still were struggling with each other.
