Friday, 27 May, my mother visited us in our new flat for the first time!! She will be 85 on 30 June. Unfortunately, her illness – dementia – can neither be stopped nor improved. In addition, now her stubbornness, which also was present in the past, comes to life with full force. As all can see who know her from the past, she is shrinking visibly. This does not stop her from fighting vehemently against moving into an old age pensioners home. In the meantime, she has a nice and active custodian and twice a day employees of a welfare centre visit her and take care of her. We hope that her staying in the flat will not lead to accidents. During her visit of two and a half hours she had bright moments quite often, which I was glad about. Her physical abilities are surprisingly good, and she is of the opinion that she will get 90 for sure. On verra!
